It’s been 8 weeks since my last hair growing blog post! I decided to wait and combine two months in to one post. My hair has got to a length where a months growth doesn’t really feel much different. Even though it feels like it, your hair growth doesn’t slow down at this stage, it’s just simply not as much of a drastic change that you notice within the first 6 months of growing.
I mentioned in my last post that I was thinking about getting some highlights through my hair. I did that about 4 weeks ago, my mates Fiancée, Danielle, is an amazing colourist and said she’d do it for me. We decided some really subtle, natural looking highlights would be a good choice to just add some more texture to my hair and break it up a little bit. They really are subtle and I am really happy with the results, it has done exactly what I wanted it to. Plus, having something done to my hair stopped me feeling bored of it! So thanks to Danielle for doing a boss job of my highlights.
I also mentioned that I thought I’d maybe have a trim too. Well, that didn’t happen. I actually booked myself in with Jay as he had asked me to cut his hair and I thought about getting mine done that same night but when it came to it I got nervous and decided to leave it! At this rate my hair is going to be down by my arse and it will be about 10 years before I next have a trim (not really). I will have a trim but I’ve decided to wait until the 12 month anniversary before I get one.
My hair is in really good condition as I’ve been looking after it properly and I started back at the gym this month so I’m hoping this will speed up my hair growth a little bit as I’m trying to eat more healthy. Healthy diet, Healthy hair! One thing that is hard to get used to is my hair dropping into my face whilst I train. so when I went shopping with Jen today, she took me into a shop to get a hair band. I bought it and wore it on the drive home but I’m undecided as to whether I’ll actually wear it to the gym yet. Cant get used to the idea of wearing an actual hairband. Anyway, with me training a few times a week I’ve really been making use of the American Crew Daily Shampoo as I have been washing my hair most days. I also still make sure I condition my hair once or twice per week. I feel conditioning it makes it feel great, more manageable and less fly away.
I had a conversation with a few friends at a big hair event last weekend (Salon International), I was there working but found some time to talk about my new longer hair and one of my friends recommended that I use a great dry shampoo. Because my hair is fine in texture it can appear dirty after just one or two days. Dry shampoo is basically an aerosol spray that when applied to your hair makes it feel like you have just washed it, it’s great to apply to the roots of your hair if it appears slightly greasy after only a day since it’s last wash. I have got my hands on a particular brand (Percy&Reed) that I have used before on some models for photoshoots and on some stage work. Percy & Reed products are really good, their packaging I guess would appeal to ladies more but the products themselves are great for guys with longer hair. I also just bought their Dry Volume Spray, This was recommended to me as a great quick product to spray into my hair to make it appear more volumous and thicker whilst giving my hair a light hold. I won’t use this daily as a replacement to my Cutthroatpete Texture but when I’m on the go, which I am a lot of the time, and my hair feels like it needs a bit of life breathing into it I will use the Dry Volume Spray.
Thats been my highlights of the last two months of growing my hair. It’s definitely still growing and I’m really starting to enjoy my hair feeling more like a longer hairstyle than a shorter hairstyle thats just waiting to get long.
Oh yea, one last tip – After washing my hair and adding some Cutthroatpete Texture, I’ve been putting the top section of my hair, including my fringe into a bobble in a sort of Samurai style. I keep the bobble in for about an hour or until my hair has dried and then take it out, it really helps my fringe sit away from my face for the rest of the day.
Thank you for all the great messages this last two months, it’s great to hear from so many people that have decided to have a go at growing their hair and are using my blog posts for some advice.
See you in November!!
