I first came across ‘The Bearded Bastard’ about five years ago as the beard craze was at it’s hype. Lots of beard oil companies where approaching me at the time to sample their products. After trying a lot of them out on my own beard, before recommending them to my customers, it was The Bearded Bastard’s products that stood out to me the most. The quality of the products, the packaging, the scents used were all top drawer. Also, I do need to add that the labelling of these products is like nothing I’ve ever seen before, the labels are actually made from laser engraved wood!! Genius! After seeing this I instantly wanted to try them out.
The main reason for using a beard oil is to keep your beard in tip top condition whilst moisturising the skin underneath. This skin is naturally hidden away from the air and daylight by your facial hair so it is important to look after it and give it what it needs.
I personally find that using TBB Barbershop beard oil after a nice hot shower whilst my beard is still slightly damp gives the oil the best chance of reaching the deeper darker depths of my beard. I massage it in well then brush my beard into shape and allow it to air dry. My beard looks and feels great and smells so good for the rest of the day! The careful selection of ingredients in TBB products means that there are no nasty hidden ingredients that will aggravate your skin and the oils properties can be left to work their magic.
I got to chatting to Jeremiah (the wizard behind this great brand) and I learnt that he actually makes all of his products himself. I built up an image in my head of a ‘Walter White’ type guy of the Male Grooming world. I could just imagine him working over a bubbling test tube and Bunsen burner making his amazing smelling concoctions. Minus the motorhome obviously.
When I first found The Bearded Bastard they had three different scents I think, Woodsman, Simply Vanilla and Opium Den. It’s amazing to see how the product line is continuing to grow as Jeremiah’s Wizardous (is that a word??) ways inspire him to think up some fantastic new fragrances and products. I became addicted to using The Bearded Bastards products in my beard and started to recommend them to my customers. The feed back was always great. Also, people would always ask me what aftershave I was wearing and were surprised when I told them it’s just 4-5 drops of beard oil that’s giving off the incredible scent. I was over the moon to find out that Jeremiah had started to develop the scents from his products into actual bottles of fragrance.
I actually got to meet Jeremiah in Person a few years back when he visited Liverpool which was really cool. We got to chat about the work that goes on behind the scenes of operating a successful brand. I like when I meet someone that really inspires me and Jeremiah was one of those people. When I find a product/brand I like and believe in, I find it hard to put my faith in any other brands. Jeremiah shared some of his secrets with me, telling me exactly how he makes these perfect products, and that just made me like them even more.
There is now a new line of products available that are manufactured by Jeremiah but under a new company name: Newton Plus. These products, I feel, are more of a unisex range. Spanish Sage cleansing oil and the Palo Santo Face Oil are skin care products as opposed to products just aimed at hairy faced fellas. I did just get a delivery of these new products a few days ago and my skin is feeling revitalised from using it already. They have obviously had the same care and attention to detail put into each and every bottle and tin. This is a great addition to the Newton empire and again I can see myself becoming hooked on these products as part of my own daily grooming regime.
The Bearded Bastard and Newton Plus are a brand I urge you to check out if you have a passion for great smelling, hand made, high quality grooming products. Have a look at his website and have a read of his great in depth instructions on how to use the products properly.
My personal favourite from the whole range…
The Barber shop range is my ultimate favourite. The matte hair clay, the fragrance and the beard oil all have a real Barber shop smell. The actual scent reminds me of a cologne that a traditional old school barbershop would have in the air mixed with the talc and the sweet smell of tobacco. It’s a nostalgic scent that makes me feel good inside and makes me want to keep going back for another sniff!!
I feel like there are many brands that have tried to do what Jeremiah has achieved but not many have come close to rivalling this well rounded grooming brand.
