With the end of 2017 fast approaching and this being a time to reflect, I wrote a letter to my younger self to remind myself how good things are.
To Me,
You will be born into an incredible family and your parents will bring you up in the best way.
School is not as important as people will make out to you. Teachers will say things to you that you should not take seriously at all. You have your own path to follow, keep your head together and just breeze through the days that you don’t enjoy. Take things with a pinch of salt.
You will reach 16 and think you are an adult. You will think you already know everything but you don’t! You are about to live your life in a way that you haven’t before and you will really enjoy it. Being head strong will prove to be a vital attribute when it comes to choosing your career path.
You will represent your country in athletics, (shot put to be precise.) How does that sound? Take that experience and enjoy it, you will make your family proud.
You will think that you’re in love but you’re just young! People will try to make you believe that your life is supposed to happen in a certain regimented order but thats not true either. Again, just be you and listen to your heart.
You will be affected by other peoples emotions and feel like you have no control over situations. This is not true. Sadness is real but not as real as happiness. Your mind is a powerful thing. Don’t let it trick you! You are stronger than you think.
You will actually fall in love and when you do you will know it’s real. Your soulmate and future wife is a beautiful woman that has been part of your life since your early years. She will be a vital part in you growing into a good adult.
Your dreams are not just dreams. You need to focus on them and know they can be achieved. As your parents will teach you from a young age, you don’t have to conform.
Work can be fun. Your ability to listen to advice and take advantage of your creativeness will allow you to never work a day in your life but you will be rich in happiness and loyalty.
You will lose a hero. This will be one of those moments in your life that changes everything. You will feel like your world has fallen apart but it definitely has not. Your hero will live on through you. You may feel like you can’t cope for a while but, trust me, I promise you will learn to carry on and make him proud.
You will think that you have true friends for life. You will let them in and will be loyal to them. They will hurt you or turn out not to be friends at all. You will learn that not all people were brought up with the same values as you. Your close circle will be your real friends for life, keep them close.
Again that mind of yours will try to take over and you might question yourself or things that go on in your head. You are not the only person on earth to feel this way. In fact, many of your friends, family and people you know will be struggling, too. You are never alone. Anxiety is a Bitch!
You will put pressure on yourself and feel like you are not doing your best, but you are. You are actually living the dream so stop being hard on yourself and enjoy your best years.
You are 33 now and, still, you refuse to conform but you are the happiest you can possibly be. Life will throw things at you that you have to deal with, but again, you are not alone.
Please continue to be hungry but content!
Love Me
